Oris was founded in 1904 by Paul Cattin and Georges Christian, in Hölstein, Switzerland, and quickly found success. By 1911, the company had grown significantly and opened four more factories in surrounding cities.
In 1925, Oris debuted their first wristwatch, marking the global shift from pocket watches to wristwatches, after WWI. The dawn of the wristwatch brought about the introduction of one of the brand’s most iconic models: the Big Crown. The collection takes its name from the watch’s oversized crown, designed to help pilots adjust their watches while wearing leather flying gloves. Variations on this watch are still produced today alongside their, much sought-after, diving, motorsport, and culture collections.
Oris is one of the few companies in the Swiss watch industry to have retained its independence, following its passion for premium quality, high-performance timepieces. The brand’s all-mechanical breeds are distinctive in design and stamped with the iconic red rotor motif – the instantly recognisable symbol of the company’s success since its inception.
