Engineered to evoke its wearer to live life to the full because it’s finite and we’ll all die eventually — in case you needed reminding — the Tikker Watch takes the concept of “carpe diem” to the extreme. Through a simple calculation and questionnaire, you can estimate your life expectancy or when “death” may occur.  This number is then punched into the Tikker Watch and so begins the countdown toward your day of reckoning!

It’s meant to encourage you to live every moment and not waste a single second, but for sure it won’t be everyone’s cup of tea.

It can of course be used in a slightly less morbid way, for example, where you have a work project deadline, a weight loss target, or perhaps to count down to your retirement date.

The story behind the watch’s creator is an interesting one. Tikker is a Kickstarter-made-legitimate by creator Fredrik Colting, but he has hobbies outside of watch-making — including plagiarising and repurposing some of the world’s most revered and classic works. Colting’s pen name is John David California, and he’s been sued for publishing everything from “children’s versions” of Breakfast at Tiffany’s, The Old Man and the Sea, On the Road, to writing an unauthorised sequel to The Catcher in the Rye.

Colting didn’t even bother to change the name of the books, and can it really be said that “Tikker” is all that original, either? If you’re going to live your life to the fullest, we suggest carving your own way forward…in your own time.

If you want a good laugh you should see what it says on the box of one of these watches – The Tikker “Death Watch” is for entertainment purposes only and is not intended as a medical device or instrument to predict when you may die.

Here at TimeTraders we prefer to stick with normal!
