This is a question we hear a lot and the answer isn’t as simple and straightforward as you might think.

Originally a wristwatch was an essential for everyone, because it was the only way to keep track of the time, but these days with all the technology around it could be argued that you don’t really need one. The fact is though, we want them!

Heres a few reasons why:

1. It’s a good  investment

If you look at how financial markets have been affected in recent years, first by the covid pandemic and more recently the war in Europe, many people are looking at safe alternative investment options for their hard earned cash. This is where a premium watch comes in. If you buy the right piece there’s every likelihood that it will increase in value over the years. What’s more a watch is a tangible asset – you can touch and feel it. You can’t say the same about a share certificate.

2. It’s a lifelong goal

For many people it’s a lifelong goal to own a luxury watch.  The quality and craftsmanship that comes with buying a top end brand means you’ll have something that will follow you through life and continue to tick, year after year. It can also be passed on through generations along with the many stories that go with it.

3. It’s a status symbol

It mind sound a bit egotistical but there’s no denying that a luxury watch is seen by many as a status symbol, that says I’m an achiever. Also, when you’re neatly suited and booted a quality timepiece adds that special something which means you’ll look the part and can feel suitably confident. People notice a good watch and what’s more, it’s a great conversation starter.

4. It’s comes with history

It’s not just the time that’s displayed when you wear a luxury timepiece on your wrist; the rich history of watchmaking is portrayed in all its glory. From GMT to Diver, Swiss-made, space, and military, many watches tell their own stories, but they all stem from the rise in wristwatch popularity during the First World War.

After soldiers started to wear their pocket watches around their wrists so they could quickly   tell the time in the trenches, numerous companies started to improve their endurance, efficiency and overall design. Luxury timepieces continue to be refined and improved to withstand even the most adventurous lifestyles.

5. It’s a passion

For many people it starts as soon as they buy their first watch. It looks good, it feels good and often enough it will come with a great story. Imagine owning exactly the same watch that Gene Kranz wore when, as head of Mission Control, he beat the odds and brought Apollo 13 safely back to earth. Often enough, once you’ve started, it’s hard to stop. Owning a collection of luxury timepieces is incredibly interesting and very satisfying.

Whatever your reasons, the style, craftsmanship and often the history that comes with a premium watch is enough to make anyone tick!
